NUDANCO auditions are held in the beginning of each semester – September or January. Auditions will be held in either the CSC dance studio, CSC ballroom, or the Fenway Center. Specific audition dates and locations vary, so please check our Events section for dates and times.
Please feel free to wear whatever you are most comfortable in when auditioning. Many company members wear leotards/tights under tank tops/t-shirts/sweatpants etc. Just be aware that it is especially important for the choreographers to be able to see your body, movement and lines. Company members usually dance barefoot, but many also choose to wear “footsies.” Additionally, certain styles require specialized foot-ware – i.e. tap shoes for tap, sneakers for hip-hop, etc.
Choreographer auditions are typically held before dancer auditions. Anyone who is interested in choreographing their own piece is invited to come and audition in front of the executive board. Please have at least 75% of your choreography finished at the time of auditions. At the audition you will be asked to provide a rough outline of your vision for the piece (number of dancers, costumes, etc) and sign a contract agreeing to our anti-plagiarism policy.
Dancer auditions are held once we have determined the choreographers and pieces for each showcase. You do NOT need to come with a dance prepared. Each choreographer will preview their dance at the beginning of auditions, so that you can decide which you are best suited for. Choreographer will have a scheduled audition time for that day and dancers are free to come and go according to their interests. Each choreographer will have approximately 40 minutes for auditions, during which you will be taught a short combination and/or asked to go across the floor. You are free to audition for as many pieces as you’d like but upon acceptance you are ultimately allowed to choose 3. However, choreographers are allowed to be in 3 pieces, plus their own.
